UK 'lacks gas storage facilities'
Updated 14.09 Wed Jun 04 2008
A lack of gas storage facilities is being blamed for energy prices in Britain rising faster than those in continental Europe.
The UK has just 13 days worth of gas stockpiled, compared with 99 in Germany and 122 in France.

Consumer group Energywatch and the Intensive Energy Users Group have told a Commons Select Committee that foreign power firms are buying up cheap North Sea gas in summer that the UK is unable to store, but refuse to sell it back in the winter.
The groups said this means European consumers are benefiting from vast stockpiles and cheaper prices, while the UK has to buy in expensive supplies on the open market.
