Sir Bobby launches cancer charity
Football legend and former England manager Sir Bobby Robson has launched a charitable foundation to help with the fight against cancer.
Sir Bobby, 75, is fighting his fifth bout of the disease after being diagnosed with cancer in 1991.
He is hoping to raise £5,000 for the charity which will fund a new research facility at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital.
Sir Bobby said: "Through the NHS we have been offered a brand new facility at the hospital. It's three-times the size of the existing unit, but what we haven't got is the money.
"I've taken on board the responsobility of trying to raise a minimum of £500,000 to kit out this centre which will be brilliant for the people of the north east.
On his own health he said he is "fine". He added: "I've got tumours in my lungs and have been on chemotherapy. The latest scan shows the tumours are not progressing as fast as they were so I'm fine."
