Australian scientists dissect giant squid
Scientists in Australia have dissected a giant squid in front of an audience in order to find out more about how they live.
The operation was carried out at the Museum of Victoria and scientists hope it will help them get a more accurate age estimate.
Interest was so high that a live audience went along to watch the operation of the squid, which is one of the largest ever caught.
It was pulled up in fishing nets in June and is going to be sown back together and put on display at the museum.
And if you're partial to some calamari, the scientists told the audience the female squid would not appeal to human tastes - it has ammonia in its body which would make calamari taste like window cleaner, it was also reported.
