Shoaib loses ban appeal
Updated 13.27 Wed Apr 30 2008
Shoaib Akhtar has lost an appeal against his five-year ban from playing in Pakistan.
The fast bowler was punished after criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) when he was not given a central contract.
The initial punishment was upheld by a three-man panel
Shoaib has since apologised to PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf for claiming he was punished for refusing to share his earnings from the Indian Premier League.
But the initial punishment was upheld by a three-man panel and Shoaib is banned from playing for Pakistan and for any team in Pakistan.
In theory, he can play in the Indian Premier League, but the officials running that competition say all players must qualify to represent their country, so Shoaib is ineliglble.
