British number one Andrew Murray has been seeded eighth for Wimbledon.

This is despite the 20-year-old from Dunblane battling to overcome a wrist injury in time for the All England Club Grand Slam tournament which begins on Monday.

Andy Murray has been seeded eighth for Wimbledon, despite the British number one being doubtful with a wrist injury

Murray has been sidelined since last month's Hamburg Masters but that has not stopped him from achieving a career-best ranking of eighth in the world.

Defending champion Roger Federer, who is bidding to match Bjorn Borg's feat of five successive Wimbledon titles, has been installed as the top men's seed.

Last year's beaten finalist, Rafael Nadal, who has just sealed a hat-trick of French Open titles, has been seeded second ahead of Artois Championships winner Andy Roddick, Novak Djokovic, Fernando Gonzalez and Nikolay Davydenko.

The men's seedings are based on the current world rankings, but are slightly adjusted to take into account grass-court performances in the last two years, while the women's are almost identical to the world rankings.

Reigning French Open champion Justine Henin is the top woman ahead of 2004 champion Maria Sharapova, Jelena Jankovic and defending champion Amelie Mauresmo.

However, three-times champion Venus Williams moves up from 31st in the world to 24th seed.
