Arsene Wenger was sent from the touchline as Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season in Seville.

The Premier League leaders were beaten 3-1 by Sevilla as Wenger left some of his most experienced players at home.

"His behaviour was absolutely shocking" - Arsene Wenger

Captain William Gallas and striker Emmanuel Adebayor both stayed in London but Arsenal made the ideal start when Eduardo gave them the lead.

Seydou Keita and Luis Fabiano both scored for the Spanish side before Wenger showed his frustration with the time-wasting tactics used by Sevilla defender Daniel Alves and he was sent to the stands.

Wenger said: "The player was down and when the guy came on the pitch he stood up and two minutes later he was sprinting.

"The referee came to see me and I asked him why I was sent off. He said he would explain after the game. He could not give me any other reason."

He added: "The fourth official was very busy throughout the game. That is the minimum you can say.

"I have played 100 games in the Champions League and I must say his behaviour was absolutely shocking."

Former Tottenham striker Fredi Kanoute scored Sevilla's third goal from the penalty spot.

Arsenal defender Kolo Toure said: "They deserve their win. We gave everything, and that's the way football goes.

"The most important thing to do is to work hard and think about the next game."

Wenger added: "Sevilla deserved to win the game and congratulations to them."
