Mother and son in dramatic rescue

A mother and son have been dramatically rescued from a flooded creek in Australia.

Emergency services overcame pounding rain and rushing floodwater to rescue the pair, who had clung to trees for several hours to stay alive.

Ten year-old Leighton was rescued when a firefighter managed to swim across and fix a line to him so he could be hauled to safety

It was the brother of the missing boy who discovered them and called for help.

Tyler Frankel said: "I came down, I saw my brother holding onto a tree and then I went down and mum was holding onto a tree a bit further down."

Others were then able to save his mother.

Both mother and child suffered only minor cuts and the rescue team is now being considered for a bravery award.
