Lily turns to acting

Lily Allen will be making her major film debut in a spoof version of Pride and Prejudice.

The movie, titled Jane Austen Handheld, will see the Smile singer star as Lydia Bennett, while Russell Brand plays her lover George Wickham.

Other stars in the £2.5m production include Stephen Fry, who will play Lydia's father Mr Bennett. His wife will be played by Hollywood legend Carrie Fisher.

The lead roles of Lizzie Bennett and Mr Darcy have yet to be cast.

Sprout, Fry's company which is producing the film, have confirmed shooting will start next spring.

The script has been penned by Bedrooms and Hallways writer Robert Farrarm, and retells the classic story in the format of a fly-on-the-wall documentary.
