Hatton considers Mayweather rematch

Ricky Hatton is prepared to fight at welterweight again but only in a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.

Hatton stepped up from light-welterweight in December to fight Mayweather and he was beaten comprehensively in Las Vegas.

"It has always been about the challenge for me" - Ricky Hatton

But the boxer, who is known as The Hitman, has not been put off fighting at a heavier weight.

He said: "Maybe the first fight should have been a bit of a wake-up call and told me that I'm not quite a welterweight really, but it's always been about the challenge for me.

"It was never about unbeaten records and padded-out records. Even though the first one at welterweight was a little bit of a struggle, I had no fear moving up again.

"Needless to say, that'll be the last fight at welterweight, with a bit of luck."

Hatton is hoping to reach a deal that will allow him to fight Juan Lazcano at the City of Manchester Stadium, then Paulie Malignaggi in New York in the autumn.

Hatton added: "We've been talking to the City of Manchester Stadium and we've been talking to Wembley and next week we should be able to have a press conference to announce it all."
