Teenage father-to-be found hanged

A teenage father-to-be has been found hanged in his pregnant girlfriend's bedroom.

Paul Briggs, 17, had been staying with 15-year-old Kyra Applin at her home in Rhondda, South Wales.

Ms Applin's mother, Sharon, said the couple had been excited at the prospect of becoming parents and had already discussed names for the baby.

She said: "He liked the name Mia so we are going to call her Mia."

She added: "We have all been terrible. It's more of a shock than anything. He was very popular and very kind."

Ms Applin described the moment the young couple were told they were expecting a girl, saying: "We held hands, we were both really excited. We even talked about names."

She added: "I liked Michaela but Briggsy wanted Mia, so now I'm going to call her Mia."

Ms Applin and Mr Briggs had been dating for eight months.

South Wales Police said they were not treating his death as suspicious.
