Spurs boost Uefa Cup hopes
Tottenham Hotspur have improved their chances of securing a Uefa Cup spot with a 1-0 win at home to Reading.
A second-half Robbie Keane penalty was the difference between the teams which had started the game one point and one place apart.
The win moves Spurs into sixth place, two points ahead of Everton, who play at Aston Villa on Monday night. Reading meanwhile remain in eighth on 44 points.
In the Coca-Cola Championship Steve Bruce's Birmingham City saw off local rivals Coventry 3-0 to remain on track for automatic promotion to the Premiership.
Blues moved back into the top two of the Coca-Cola Championship thanks to a first-half header from Radhi Jaidi and a DJ Campbell brace in the second half.
Birmingham suffered a blow just before kick-off with the news that Andy Cole, who signed last week on loan from Portsmouth, had been prevented from making his debut by a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile in the Scottish Premier League, Hearts won the Edinburgh derby against Hibernian 1-0 with a late strike from Marius Zaliukas.
Hearts remain fourth with 51 points from 32 games and Hibs trail one place behind on 43 from 31.
And in the 32nd and last English final to be played at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, Doncaster Rovers defeated Bristol Rovers to lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Captain Graeme Lee headed the winning goal in the 20th minute of extra time to hand the Yorkshire club victory on their first appearance in a major final.
The two Rovers playing in front of a crowd of 59,024 - a record for the Football League Trophy - had been tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes.
Doncaster had raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening five minutes before Bristol Rovers clawed their way back into the game with second half strikes.
