Meehan up on child porn charges
The former partner of Shannon Matthews' mother has appeared in court on charges of possessing child pornography.
Craig Meehan, 22, appeared at Dewsbury Magistrates' Court accused of possessing 140 indecent images of children, which were allegedly found on a computer at the home he shared with Karen Matthews.
The images are of children aged between four and 16, graded at levels one to four - on a scale where one is the least serious and five the most.
Meehan denies the charges and the case was adjourned. He will stand trial at the same court at a later date.
His uncle Michael Donovan, 39, of Lidgate Gardens, Batley Carr, has been charged with the kidnap and imprisonment of nine-year-old Shannon in March this year.
He will go on trial at Leeds Crown Court on November 11 alongside the girl's mother, who is charged with child neglect and perverting the course of justice.
Meehan was later arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with the alleged abduction and was bailed pending further inquiries.
He has now been remanded back into custody until the next hearing on May 21.
Other members of Meehan's family have also been arrested and bailed by officers investigating Shannon's disappearance.
Donovan was arrested by West Yorkshire Police on March 14 following a dramatic 24-day search for Shannon.
Police found the youngster hidden in his flat on Lidgate Gardens, just one mile from her home in Dewsbury Moor.
