Rangers ready for French test in Lyon

Walter Smith will be hoping Rangers can become the second Scottish side to win in France in less than a month when they travel to Lyon in the Champions League.

The national side pulled off a shock 1-0 win over their French compatriots in their Euro 2008 qualifier in Paris three weeks ago.

"The national team has been doing very well and that gives everyone a massive lift, as did our result against Stuttgart" - Walter Smith

And Smith will be looking to his Gers to take inspiration from that result as well as their 2-1 win over Stuttgart in their Group E opener at Ibox a fortnight ago.

Smith, who masterminded Scotland's win over France at Hampden Park last October, said ahead of the clash at the Stade Gerland: "I don't think the recent results have done us any harm.

"The national team has been doing very well and that gives everyone a massive lift, as did our result against Stuttgart.

"From a Rangers point of view, we now want to carry that on this season by achieving good results. But we know that every game will be very tough, and we are expecting a difficult 90 minutes against Lyon."
