Yakubu scored twice against his former club as Everton beat Portsmouth 3-1 at Goodison Park.
The Nigeria international opened the scoring in the first minute when he headed home from Stevn Pienaar's free kick.
The win keeps Everton in fourth place in the Premier League
But Jermain Defoe equalised for Portsmouth by getting the faintest of touches to a cross from Glen Johnson.
In the second half, Tim Cahill headed Everton back in front from a Pienaar cross.
And Yakubu added a third goal late on with a powerful shot past David James from close range.
The win keeps Everton in fourth place in the Premier League, three points ahead of their local rivals Liverpool.
