Everton have left themselves needing a mighty performance when Fiorentina travel to Merseyside.

The Toffees went 2-0 down to the Italians in the first-leg of the Uefa Cup last-16 and manager David Moyes admits his players failed to match their own high standards.

The Everton boss did not hide his disappointment, saying: "The performance was not good tonight, we now have a big job to do. Some players, in fact the majority, didn't play to their potential."

Moyes' team were undone by two quality second-half strikes - from Zdravko Kuzmanovic and then Riccardo Montolivo - and the Scot acknowledged they were off the pace throughout the match in Florence.

Meanwhile, midfielder Charlie Adam believes Rangers have turned Ibrox into a fortress this season after notching up a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen.

Rangers remain involved in four competitions and Adam declared afterwards: "It's not only about people being fearful of us in Europe, it's about being fearful in every game we play here."

The Germans arrived in Glasgow not only as favourites for the last 16 clash, but also hotly tipped to lift the trophy.

However, they were left reeling by an impressive performance from their hosts as Daniel Cousin and Steven Davis bagged a goal apiece on a night when Adam, Barry Ferguson and Lee McCulloch could also have been on the scoresheet.
