Federer clinches fourth round place
Roger Federer is through to the fourth round of the French Open after a 6-3 6-4 6-2 win over Mario Ancic.
Federer remains on course for his third successive final at Roland Garros and he will face Julien Benneteau for a place in the quarter-finals.
The last 16 will be dominated by Frenchmen because Benneteau will be joined by compatriots Gael Monfils, Michael Llodra, Paul-Henri Mathieu and Jeremy Chardy.
Monfils will play Ivan Ljubicic, who fought back from two sets down to beat the fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4.
Former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt lost a five-set match to the fifth seed David Ferrer.
Chilean Fernando Gonzalez could be a dark horse in the tournament as he came back from two sets and a break down to beat ninth seed Stanislas Wawrinka 5-7 2-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 and win his 15th consecutive match on clay.
