Nadal romps to victory

Rafael Nadal is through to the second round of the French Open after a straight sets victory over Tomaz Bellucci.

The defending champion recovered from a tight first set to win 7-5 6-3 6-1.

Novak Djokovic became the first man through to the third round

Lleyton Hewitt and Radek Stepanek are also through to the second round.

Novak Djokovic became the first man through to the third round as he thrashed Miguel Angel Lopez Jaen 6-1 6-1 6-3.

Maria Sharapova, the top seed in the women's tournament, eventually beat fellow Russian Evgeniya Rodina 6-1 3-6 8-6 to reach the second round.

Sharapova broke Rodina's serve four times in the first set but had to show some grit to win a long deciding set.
