The jury in the trial of a man accused of murder, following a chip-throwing incident on a bus in London, has retired for a second day.

The Old Bailey jury has to decide if Anthony Joseph is guilty of the murder or manslaughter of Richard Whelan.

Richard Whelan died after being stabbed seven times, including once through the heart

The 23-year-old from Islington, north London, denies murder, saying he was responsible for manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The victim's girlfriend, Kerry Barker, said Joseph had been throwing chips around the top deck of the No 43 bus in Holloway Road, north London, in July 2005.

Mr Whelan who was 28, died after intervening and being stabbed seven times, including once through the heart.

The jury is considering the evidence of doctors for the defence and prosecution about Joseph's mental condition at the time.
