Amy Winehouse will not face charges over video footage of her apparently taking drugs.

The troubled singer was interviewed by police in east London earlier this month and quizzed for several hours before being released on bail later the same day.

Scotland Yard said the arrest was in connection with a video of the star passed to them by a newspaper in January in which the Rehab singer appears to be smoking crack cocaine, snorting ecstasy and cocaine and admitting to downing six Valium.

Following an extensive police enquiry, a file was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to determine whether anti-drugs laws had been broken.

It has now announced that it will not advise criminal proceedings against Winehouse, saying the footage itself did not establish whether the substances were, in fact, illegal drugs.

In a statement the CPS said: "In the absence of any forensic opportunity or reliable evidence from any witness who could say clearly what the substances were, we concluded we could not establish to the high criminal standard of proof required in a criminal court that they were controlled drugs. We therefore decided there was no realistic prospect of conviction."

In April, Winehouse received a police caution and apologised for slapping a man during an early hours row.
