Indiana Jones smashes box office
Indiana Jones's latest adventure has whipped the global box office into a frenzy after taking £148 million on its opening weekend.
Paramount Pictures estimated that Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made $151 million (£76 million) in the US and Canada from Thursday to Bank Holiday Monday and $143 million (£72 million) around the rest of the world up to Sunday.
It is expected to become the second biggest US Memorial Day weekend film opening ever.
The film is the fourth movie in the Indiana Jones franchise, created by George Lucas.
Released 19 years after the last film, it sees Harrison Ford return as the whip-cracking professor, alongside Cate Blanchett, who plays an evil KGB agent, and Shia LaBeouf as his son.
It was plagued with mixed reviews after its world premiere at Cannes, but most critics have agreed it's set to be a blockbuster.
