
Hamilton wins breakthrough award
Lewis Hamilton has won the best international newcomer prize at a sports ceremony in Russia.
The British Formula One driver finished second in the world drivers' championship behind Kimi Raikkonen in his first-ever season in the competition and he was rewarded with the Breakthrough of the Year category at the Laureus Sports awards in St Petersburg.
There was further recognition of British sport as Paula Radcliffe was named the Comeback Athlete of the Year.
For the fourth year running, world tennis number one Roger Federer was named Sportsman of the Year.
Fellow tennis player Justine Henin was named the best Sportswoman for the first time.
Rugby World Cup winners South Africa won the Team of the Year award.
