Fabio Capello is convinced John Terry's goal against the United States will help him get over his Champions League disappointment.

Terry headed the first goal as England won their Wembley friendly 2-0, seven days after he missed the penalty that would have won the Champions League for Chelsea.

"He can go on his holiday happy now" - Fabio Capello

Capello said: "I am very pleased to see him score.

"I am very happy for him and us. It was important for him to score. He can go on his holiday happy now."

Terry was captain for the night and staked his claim to be given the job on a permanent basis.

Capello added: "John Terry is a leader. He is a leader for Chelsea and also the national team."

Capello will choose a permanent captain before the World Cup qualifiers begin in August.

He said: "The captaincy will not be an easy decision and even in my own mind I do not know what the decision will be.

"But I will make my mind up and when I decide I will talk with the players."
