Dozens arrested in Chinatown drugs swoop
Police have arrested more than 30 people suspected of dealing drugs in London's Chinatown.
The swoop follows a three-month surveillance operation aimed at those supplying Class A drugs, including cocaine and heroin.
Metropolitan Police said 32 people were arrested, 16 of whom remain in custody at a central London police station.
The arrests were made for suspicion of supplying a controlled drug (six people) and alleged possession of controlled drugs (ten people).
Three of those held were already wanted by police.
Commander Steve Allen, head of policing in Westminster, said: "Today's arrests are part of a determined effort to combat the sale and use of drugs in Westminster.
"These individuals travel into central London to make their profits from selling class A drugs.
"We are committed to reducing this type of anti-social behaviour through joint initiatives with Westminster City Council, our partner agencies, and the close relationship we have with the Chinese community.
"We will be increasing patrols by the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams in order to provide visible reassurance to businesses and the thousands of people who visit the area.
"Our dedicated Chinatown Unit will also be on hand to discuss the ongoing operation with the local community."
