Fever pitch ahead of final

There are fears the quality of the pitch might not be up to scratch for the Champions League final in Moscow.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has concerns over the quality of a new grass surface at the Luzhniki stadium, but insists it will not affect their performance.

Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed concerns about the pitch

He said: "You've just got to deal with what is put in front of you. We will have no qualms. If it's not up to the standard of some of the pitches in England we'll have to deal with it."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed concerns about the pitch, saying: "I think Uefa have done their best. The fact they have relaid it from Astroturf to turf is a big delight to me.

"You have to remind yourself that Old Trafford in January or February is not the best in the league."

A Uefa spokesman said: "It may not look very, very green on television, but, essentially, it is a good pitch to play football on. At this stage, we are confident it will be fine."

United are aiming to win the trophy for the third time after success in 1999 and 1968.
