Chris Tarrant has been given a police caution over claims he threw cutlery at a fellow diner in a Nottingham restaurant.

John Trussler claimed the 60-year-old television presenter threw a knife at him during a meal at the MemSaab curry house.

"I can now put this over-inflated affair behind me" - Chris Tarrant

Tarrant said he jokingly lobbed some cutlery at another table on May 13, but an independent pathology report contradicted Mr Trussler's claim that he had suffered an inch-long cut on his arm in the incident because there were no cuts or marks on his shirt.

He said: "I am very pleased that the police have handled the matter so efficiently, recognising that there was never any malice on my part, just a bit of amiable horseplay.

"I am glad that no charge has been brought against me and I can now put this over-inflated affair behind me."

Tarrant made jokes about the incident while he was appearing as a guest presenter on Have I Got News For You?
