Former Coronation Street star Kate Ford has landed a new role in ITV drama Blue Murder.

The actress, who bowed out of the Street in April after five years playing scheming Tracy Barlow, is to play a mysterious witness in the detective drama starring Caroline Quentin.

Halfpenny and Fleeshman play mother and son in an episode of the detective series, which is filmed on location in Manchester.

Quentin returns as DCI Janine Lewis, a mother-of-four who juggles her job solving murder investigations with raising her family.

More than 13 million people tuned into watch Barlow sentenced to life behind bars for the murder of her lover Charlie Stubbs earlier this year.
