Monsoon death toll reaches 200

More than 220 people have been killed in accidents related to heavy wind and rain in Karachi, southern Pakistan.

Officials announced 43 people were killed in storms that lasted for three hours.

"Now the total number of those killed because of rain is 228" - Sardar Ahmed

But Health Minister of Sindh province Sardar Ahmed said a private welfare organisation had received the bodies of another 185 people killed in rain-related accidents.

He said: "Now the total number of those killed because of rain is 228."

Aid workers have used military helicopters to provide food for people displaced by the monsoon floods.

Thousands are killed every year and hundreds of thousands made homeless across South Asia by months of monsoon rains.
