Soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae is said to be devastated at the death of her husband from a suspected overdose.

Saxophonist Jason Rae, 31, was discovered at a flat in the Hyde Park area of Leeds.

The singer-songwriter, 29, shot to fame in 2006 with the release of her self-titled number one debut album

West Yorkshire Police say they arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and later released him on bail.

Police are awaiting toxicology reports on Mr Rae's body after a post-mortem proved inconclusive.

The dead man's band, the Haggis Horns, had been due to play a gig at the HiFi Club in Leeds on Sunday night.

The eight-piece has recorded with Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Corinne Bailey Rae herself.

Well-wishers have left tributes to Mr Rae and messages of support for Corinne, who shot to fame in 2006 with the release of her self-titled number one debut album, on internet fan sites.

The 29-year-old met her husband, originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, while working as a cloakroom attendant at a Leeds jazz club and the couple married in 2001.

In interviews, she has spoken of how her marriage has inspired her music saying: "I focus on the fact that it's not all just warm and fluffy feelings and that it's work.

"It's great to argue with someone and know that there's a real commitment underneath it all - it's not about slamming doors and walking away, but about working things out."
