Pakistani police 'thwart terror plot'

Pakistani police have arrested six men suspected of planning to carry out suicide bomb attacks.

Senior officials in Rawalpindi said the city, which neighbours the capital Islamabad, is still on red alert.

The arrests came just days after al-Qaeda carried out a suicide car bomb attack on the Danish embassy that killed six people, all of them Pakistani.

Rawalpindi police chief Rao Iqbal: "We have arrested suspected suicide bombers."

He said three vehicles packed with explosives had been recovered and some people arrested in a congested neighbourhood in the city.
