Felipe Massa will start the French Grand Prix from pole position with Britain's Lewis Hamilton alongside him on the front row.

Massa and his Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen had been impressive in practice at Magny Cours and they carried that form into qualifying, where they claimed first and third places.

Fernando Alonso slipped back to tenth when his car developed a mechanical problem

Hamilton was second fastest, and his McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso slipped back to tenth when his car developed a mechanical problem.

He could be forced back to 20th place on the grid if the problem requires an engine change.

David Coulthard also suffered a mechanical problem and only claimed 16th place.

Jenson Button will start in 12th place for Honda.
