The frontman with the Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner, has entered the UK album charts at number one.

Turner's debut album The Age Of The Understatement is a collaboration with his friend Miles Kane, a singer with The Rascals.

The album was recorded in just two weeks while both artists took a break from work with their other bands

The duo, who are called the Last Shadow Puppets, knocked The Kooks's album Konk off the top spot.

The Age Of The Understatement was recorded in just two weeks while both artists took a break from work with their other bands.

Turner has every reason to celebrate the success, which comes exactly one year after The Arctic Monkeys second album Favourite Worst Nightmare claimed the number one spot.

The year before, the band's debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not shot straight to number one as the fastest selling debut album ever in the UK.

In the UK singles chart popstar Madonna retained the top spot with 4 Minutes featuring Justin Timberlake.

The song is taken from her latest album Hard Candy, released a month ago.

Elsewhere in the singles chart, Black & Gold by Sam Sparro moved up one place to number two.

Estelle's American Boy, featuring Kanye West, fell one place to number three and Wearing My Rolex by Wiley came straight in at number four.
