Real put limit on Ronaldo transfer fee

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has denied suggestions the club could pay £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Some reports have claimed Real are willing to break the bank and the world record transfer fee to prise Ronaldo away from Manchester United.

"Real Madrid will never pay 100 million euros for anybody" - Ramon Calderon

Ronaldo has admitted any transfer depends on United and Real reaching a financial agreement and Real coach Bernd Schuster recently said the club would pay whatever is necessary for the Portugal winger.

Calderon chose his words carefully so he would not upset United, but insisted no player is worth a nine-figure transfer fee.

He said: "There is no 'Cristiano Ronaldo case' because Manchester United do not want to sell.

"In any case, Real Madrid will never pay 100 million euros (£80 million) for anybody."

United insist they will not sell Ronaldo and they recently reported Real to Fifa, claiming the Spanish club were trying to sign a player without permission.

Real broke the world record transfer fee when they signed Zinedine Zidane from Juventus for £46 million in 2001.
