Tyson chat show cancelled
A chat show featuring Mike Tyson has been cancelled following protests in Scotland.
The 41-year-old former boxer was set to take part in the event at a hotel in Glasgow on Saturday, but the complaints pursuaded promoter Barry Hughes to call the show off.
He was quoted as saying: "It has been cancelled due to public opinion. We didn't want to upset anybody.
"After the way the public and some MSPs have reacted, we thought it was the right thing to cancel the show. We wanted him to come here on a high with a positive tone, not on a low.
"We are very, very disappointed but we thought it was the right thing to do at this moment in time."
Tyson, who was convicted of rape in 1992, sparked street protests from some groups when he visited Scotland for a fight in 2000.
A Rape Crisis spokeswoman said the arrival of the boxer for an entertainment event would send out the "wrong message".
