Woman held over Carshalton deaths

A woman arrested following the deaths of two children is being held under the Mental Health Act.

She is believed to be the mother of the five-year-old boy and four-year-old girl found stabbed to death in Carshalton, south London.

A 35-year-old woman has been transferred from a police station in south London to a hospital, where she has been detained under the Mental Health Act

A six-month-old girl remains in a "critical but stable" condition after undergoing surgery.

A 39-year-old man was arrested but released without charge and will face no further action in relation to the deaths.

He has been bailed to return to a police station at a later date in relation to another matter, details of which police would not release.

A 35-year-old woman has been transferred from a police station in south London to a hospital, where she has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Scotland Yard said they believe they know the identity of the deceased, but are awaiting formal identification and confirmation.

Post-mortem examinations on the two victims have yet to be carried out.

Officers from the Child Abuse Investigation Command Major Investigation Team are investigating.
