Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly keen to bring Spain winger David Silva to Anfield.

However, Benitez may have to go cap in hand to Liverpool's American owners again after identifying £20 million-rated Silva as the answer to his search for more width.

Benitez sees the versatile Silva, 22, as an ideal Anfield wing man.

The Liverpool manager is said to be confident he can persuade Valencia to part with the player.

But he may have greater difficulty persuading co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett to meet the asking price.

This is becase Benitez is already reported to be hunting £15 million-rated Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry.

Benitez sees the versatile Silva, 22, who can operate on either flank or just behind the main striker, as a statement of intent.
