Blackburn are in talks with Tottenham over the transfer of England midfielder David Bentley, according to Rovers chairman John Williams.

Williams confirmed that Blackburn are in the negotiations stage with Spurs, but are yet to accept a bid for the 23-year-old.

The development comes on the day that Robbie Keane moved to Liverpool for an initial £19 million, so the majority of that fee is expected to be stumped up to lure the England international to White Hart Lane.

Blackburn have already rejected offers from Spurs and Aston Villa for Bentley, who has been valued at £17 million.

Meanwhile, another face has left Spurs - albeit temporarily - after it was confirmed that Premiership new-boys Hull have signed defender Anthony Gardner on loan.

Gardner joined the Barclays Premier League newcomers to improve his prospects of first-team action.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane is also said to be on the brink of clinching the signatures of Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul from the north London club.

Should they sign, they will be reunited with Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda who joined the Wearside club last week.
