Thai authorities, acting on tip-offs from US and Taiwanese anti-drug agencies, have seized heroin with a street value of £1.8 million, police have said.

Thai police and navy officers raided a house in the southern island of Phuket on Sunday, finding 104kg (230lb) of heroin.

The drug, brought from the notorious Golden Triangle where the jungles of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet, was valued in the local market at 100 million baht (£1.8 million), but could be worth ten times more overseas, police said in a statment.

Taiwanese man, Kuo Te Sai, 42, and his accomplice Phongthat Pongsathirsakul, 29, were arrested after being tracked by the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

Police moved in to make the arrests on Sunday after receiving information that the heroin would be shipped out of Thailand in the coming days.

The heroin had come from the Golden Triangle and was destined for markets in Western countries, after first being shipped to Taiwan, police said.
