Peaches Geldof has said she is "very happy" after her surprise wedding to an American musician.

The 19-year-old returned to London as Mrs Max Drummey after her Las Vegas wedding to the lead singer of band Chester French.

The 19-year-old daughter of Sir Bob Geldof married Max Drummey, singer in indie band Chester French, in a low-key ceremony following a whirlwind romance

Drummey, 23, is due to perform in Los Angeles on Thursday evening.

As news of the couple's nuptials spread, the daughter of Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates spent most of the day holed up in her home in Camden, north London.

When she finally left the flat the teenager, wearing a wedding ring told reporters and photographers gathered outside that she was "very happy".

Bob Geldof was informed of the wedding plans just before the short ceremony took place and he gave his blessing despite not being able to walk his daughter down the aisle.

The marriage followed a whirlwind romance between Peaches and Drummey, who were together for little over a month before tying the knot.

Peaches first met her new husband - a Harvard anthropology graduate - a year ago.

Their relationship blossomed last month after Drummey's band played at the iTunes festival in London, where Geldof hosted the ITV coverage.

Rev Steven Fabretti, who performed the 15-minute ceremony in Las Vegas, said the couple looked "very happy together".

He said: "They held hands and looked eye-to-eye - with him still wearing sunglasses - during the ceremony.

"They looked very happy together. I remember the bride looked very young and pale and quite angelic."
