Kevin Pietersen did not get a chance to use his switch-hit shot in the second one-day international against New Zealand at Edgbaston.

The England batsman was caught out for just 13 after facing 20 balls in a match cut short by rain.

England were dismissed for 162 from 24 overs after New Zealand Test debutant Grant Elliott bagged three for 23.

Then New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum made an unbeaten half-century as the Black Caps chased a revised target of 160 in 23 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis system.

But heavy rain forced the abandonment of their NatWest Series clash with New Zealand on 127 for two off 19 overs.

New Zealand would have needed to score 134 by the end of the 20th over, providing they did not lose any further wickets, to level the five-match series at 1-1.

The Kiwis lost the three-match Test series 2-0 and lost a Twenty20 match to England before being thrashed by 114 runs in the first one-day match at Durham.
