Along with taking the Best Actress title, Marion Cotillard scored major points in the fashion stakes. She stayed true to her French roots in an Chanel, arriving in a black dress before changing into a white number adorned with silver sequins.
Opinion was divided on the outfit chosen by Best supporting actress winner Tilda Swinton.
Her John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture mustard jacket was adorned with what she likened to giant "eyelashes", while her skirt was so tight she struggled to climb the steps to the stage.
"Proof that I'm astonished - I would never have worn this skirt," she said of her win.
