Unlucky 13 for Mickelson
Phil Mickelson's chances of winning the US Open appeared to vanish as he dropped four shots at the 13th hole in the third round.
The American was well-placed when he landed his second shot 40 yards short of the green.
But he underhit a chip and the ball rolled down the slope almost to his feet.
He took three more attempts to get the ball to stay on the green and finally putted out for a quadruple-bogey nine.
Mickelson said: "If I could get birdie there on 13, I could get back to even-par for the day. I felt one or two birdies coming in and I would be right there, so that's obviously a bummer.
"It's a great pin that will entice guys to get a little bit close and certainly that's what I did on my first shot. The other two were just poor, but the first shot had a good chance of being close and making birdie, and it just came back down."
