Defending champion Serena Williams has been knocked out of the Australian Open by Jelena Jankovic.

The Serbian won their quarter-final 6-3 6-4 to reach the last four in Melbourne for the first time.

"I always give my best and I never give up" - Jelena Jankovic

Serena needed treatment for a blister during the match, while Jankovic received medical attention for a thigh injury and played the final few matches in strapping.

Jankovic said: "I'm like a wounded animal, I still keep going. The most important thing is that I fight on the court and I always give my best and I never give up.

"I've beaten the Williams sisters a couple of times but here it is very special because last year in this tournament I lost to her in the fourth round.

"Now getting revenge it feels so good and I'm so happy to be in the semi-final."
