Kevin Pietersen has been told he can carry on using the switch-hitting tactic that earned him two sixes against New Zealand.

Pietersen twice switched to a left-handed stance to sweep balls from Scott Styris over the boundary at Durham.

The shots caused such a stir that the game's law-makers, the MCC, held a meeting to decide whether the shot should be allowed.

They decided not to "legislate against" the shot, so Pietersen could use the same tactic in the second one-day match at Edgbaston.

England batsman Alastair Cook has been ruled out of the match.

He is recovering from a shoulder injury and has not played since the third Test at Trent Bridge.
