Updated 13.59 Fri May 16 2008

Manchester City have been awarded a place in the Uefa Cup through the Fair Play League.

The Premier League was given an extra Uefa Cup spot because England finished the season on top of the European Fair Play League.

â€Å"It’s like the dream came true" - Sven-Goran Eriksson

City finished sixth in the table, but all of the teams above them had already qualified for European competition, so City have been given the place.

City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said: â€Å"It’s like the dream came true. Our dream to play in Europe has been strong all season.

â€Å"At one point we thought we were almost sure to get there, at other points we’ve been almost out of it, but now this news is absolutely fantastic for the Club, for the fans and for everyone.

â€Å"It’s a step in the right direction because the target for this Club in the future is to play in the Champions League, and the Uefa Cup is a very good school to learn about European football."
