Chelsea win first new Wembley FA Cup Final
Didier Drogba has fired Chelsea to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the first FA Cup Final at the new-look Wembley Stadium.
The Ivory Coast hitman settled a dour affair with his 33rd goal of the season with less than five minutes of extra-time remaining after playing a neat one-two with Frank Lampard, who said that he hopes to stay at Stamford Bridge "forever".
Match-winner Drogba said: "I feel great. If we don't win this cup we would be very, very frustrated. I'm just happy to score the first goal in the new stadium."
Mourinho, who has now won every domestic honour, has promised to hang on his FA Cup winner's medal: "This one I don't throw away - it means a lot. We have won every trophy in English football in three years.
"It is something the players deserve so much because of the difficult season they have had. It is a moment for everybody to enjoy. I think we deserve to go into the holiday period with this cup and a medal."
Ryan Giggs wasted opportunites for Sir Alex Ferguson's men, who failed to seal an historic fourth cup and league Double as they suffered a second FA Cup Final defeat in three years.
The Blues, who lifted the trophy in the last final to be played at the old stadium in 2000, are the first team to triumph at the ground seven years later after its £790 million redevelopment.
And Terry, the first captain to lead his side up the 107 steps to the royal box to be presented with the FA Cup by HRH Prince William, claimed winning the FA Cup had helped "make up" for losing the Premiership title to United.
The England skipper said: "This makes up for it. It's not nice losing - but it's nice coming here (and winning).
"It's absolutely unbelievable. It's one of the best feelings I have ever experienced The way we hung right on to the death. The way Didier took his goal. It was first class.
"We both started tentative, gave the ball away and made mistakes. But we kept going and going - and it paid off."
And Lampard added of Chelsea confirming the domestic cup double: "It took a quality finish to do it and we did it in the end. Both teams have been firing on all fronts, giving it their all.
"It was a very close game, both of us had fair chances. We got the quality goal that won it and it's massive for us. The lads have put so much effort into it."
Cech said of the incident involving Giggs, at the end of the first period of extra-time, which forced him over the line when he had the ball in his grasp: "It (the ball) was behind the line, but it would have been a foul anyway."
The stadium, resplendent in a mixture of blue and red, was officially opened by Prince William before kick-off as a Red Arrows formation noisily soared overhead.
Footballing greats from five decades of FA Cup Final clashes also received a standing ovation as they paraded on the pitch.
As he was handed the trophy by a team of soldiers, Prince William said: "As president of the Football Association it gives me enormous pleasure to welcome the FA Cup back to its rightful home at Wembley.
"It is a tremendous honour for me to declare this magnificent new Wembley Stadium officially open."
