Tottenham's new signing Luka Modric scored a penalty as Croatia beat Austria 1-0 in Group B at Euro 2008.
Modric struck in the fourth minute after Rene Aufhauser had fouled Ivica Olic.

Some fans had called for the co-hosts to withdraw from the tournament, claiming they are not strong enough to hold their own.
But they created several chances as they were cheered on by 50,000 supporters in Vienna.
In the closing stages, Roman Kienast headed a good chance just wide and Croatia had to hold on for victory.
