Harry Redknapp has revealed that Portsmouth could sell David Nugent just a month after signing the England striker from Preston North End.

The 22-year-old striker scored his first goal for Pompey as the men from Fratton Park eased to a 3-0 win over Leeds United in the second round of the Carling Cup.

Sometimes when you are trying to raise money you have to sell someone you don't really want to sell. That could be David but then again it could be others" - Harry Redknapp

Redknapp has been linked with Middlesbrough's Ayegbeni Yakubu, Bolton Wanderers' Nicolas Anelka and Tottenham Hotspur's Jermain Defoe.

And he told reporters: "Sometimes when you are trying to raise money you have to sell someone you don't really want to sell. That could be David but then again it could be others.

"What we need is somebody who can get us 15 to 20 goals a season and if we can do some good business and improve the team we will."

Nugent had been linked with Everton and Sunderland before he completed his £6 million move to Portsmouth last month.

Preston had refused to let the striker join Derby County where their former boss Billy Davies is in charge.
