Metres of snow have blanketed a mountain village, causing residents to shovel to safety.

It's not the level of snow we tend to get in Britain very regularly.

But in Saxony in East Germany huge mounds of the white stuff are covering doorways, swamping cars and blocking roads.

Temperatures dropped to -2C colder than normal, causing inch upon inch of snow to fall.

Men and boys alike are struggling to make headway with the shovels.

So winter's come early and with a vengeance for this part of Europe.

Let's hope they'll be able to plough their way through it.
