ITN and Media Trust Productions have joined forces with Mencap, the UK learning disability charity, to produce Your News.

The programme, which will premiere on the Community Channel on Saturday, March 22, is for viewers with a learning disability.

It will feature a round-up of the week's leading national, international, sports and showbiz news stories, as well as airing special features produced by journalists with a learning disability about issues of concern for the audience.

Initially a pilot, there are plans for a weekly 15-minute news bulletin co-presented by ITN On journalist, Olivia Hill, and Andrew Lee, Director of People First.

ITN and Media Trust Productions have been advised by Mencap on accessibility issues and suitable feature ideas.

Jon Godel, editor of ITN On said: "ITN is delighted to be involved with this project and to use its news production expertise to deliver a bespoke product for an important audience.

"News is a powerful tool for bringing people together and keeping them informed. We aim to produce a news bulletin that is engaging, lively and easier to follow in terms of its style, presentation and language."

The programme will be transmitted on the Community Channel on Saturday, March 22 at 6.30am; 12.30pm; 6.30pm; 12.30am. It will be repeated on Friday, March 28 at 8.30am; 2.30pm; 8.30pm and on Saturday, March 29 at 2.30am.

Your News will also be available for viewing on the Community Channel website www.communitychannel.org where you can register your comments and thoughts on the programme.

The Community Channel is available 24/7 on Sky 539 and Virgin TV 233 while Freeview 87 broadcasts the channel from 6am to 9am.
