Jude and Keira scoop charity awards

Jude Law and Keira Knightley have been crowned king and queen of the big screen.

The British stars won film actor of the year and film actress of the year at the Variety Club Showbiz Awards.

Knightley won plaudits for her role in Atonement this year while Law received the gong despite only lukewarm reviews for the film Sleuth

Other winners included Philip Glenister for TV performance of the year for Life on Mars, Michael Parkinson for outstanding contribution to showbusiness, Lee Evans who won the award for comedy, and Westlife for best recording artist.

Welsh star Katherine Jenkins was named classical performer of the year at the bash at the London Hilton.

David Suchet won stage performance of the year for his performance in The Last Confession, while Cabaret was named best Musical Theatre, and Jerry Springer won the International award for his show.
